Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the entire nation Sunday on the occasion of the National Panchayati Raj Day.
PM Modi took to Twitter to extend wishes. Calling panchayats (village bodies) the ‘pillars of Indian democracy’, he praised these as the “key to building a self-reliant India”.
Former PM Manmohan Singh also marked the first National Panchayati Raj Day on 24 April 2010.
Dr Singh stressed that the decentralisation of power to the grassroots, the institutionalization of Panchayati Raj, and the active participation of locals, contribute to the overall growth of India.
Rahul Gandhi also extended his wishes on this occasion on Twitter.
From Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, all extended wishes on Panchayati Raj Day.
Notably, PM Modi is visiting Jammu and Kashmir’s Palli village to mark this celebration. This remains his first visit to the state since Article 370 was scrapped.
