Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday arrived in Kashi (Varanasi), his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
PM Modi has inaugurated Phase 1 of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 339 crore.
The corridor inauguration comes just months ahead of the UP assembly elections. It would be a high-octane campaign by the ruling BJP and others to woo the voters in the big state.
In this phase 1 of the project, a total of 23 buildings will be inaugurated. They will provide a variety of facilities to the pilgrims visiting Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. This will include Yatri Suvidha Kendras, Tourist Facilitation Centre, Vedic Kendra, Mumukshu Bhavan, Bhogshala, City Museum, Viewing Gallery, Food Court, among others.
According to UP CM Yogi Adityanath, the inauguration of the corridor will be an unprecedented creation of history in Varanasi.
However, the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) in UP has also up the ante against the state government; it alleges that the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor was approved during its tenure.
Chief ministers of 12 states and deputy CMs of nine states are attending the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor inauguration today.
Chief ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh are present; besides, CMs of Manipur, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also attending the event.
It will be PM Modi’s two-day visit to Varanasi. When it comes to the new project, Prime Minister’s vision remains to ensure that all heritage structures be preserved during the course of the development of this project.
