Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave an interview to ANI news agency. The interview is crucial as it comes just a day before the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.
From contentious farm laws to Covid-19 pandemic, Mr Modi touched upon several issues. This week the Prime Minister also spoke at great length in the Parliament in the ongoing Budget Session.
It is noteworthy that the crucial Assembly Elections are just around the corner in five states namely UP, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur.
Mr Modi dismissing the allegations raised by opposition parties for misusing probe agencies, PM Modi said, “I have maintained silence on the issue. Supreme Court is looking into the matter seriously. Any statement that I make in this regard will impact the investigation, and it is not right.”
The Prime Minister also pointed out how previous parties that ruled Uttar Pradesh engaged in goonda raj.
“Today women say that they can step out even after dark. This trust is essential for security. There was a time in UP when goons could do anything they wanted, today they surrender. Yogi ji prioritised security and didn’t compromise with it,” Mr Modi told ANI.
On Farm laws
“PM Modi reiterates that the three farm laws were implemented for the benefit of farmers but were taken back in national interest.”
The farm laws were passed by the Parliament in 2020. These had triggered year-long protests across the country. But they were repealed in 2021.
On the Assembly elections, Mr Modi exuded confidence of his party BJP’s victory in all the five states.
“There is BJP wave. The BJP will win elections in these five states with a huge majority,” Modi told ANI.
