Pune: A BJP party worker has removed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statue installed a temple in Pune. The leadership of BJP had also pulled up the party worker.
37-year-old Mayur Munde, a BJP worker, had installed a bust of PM Modi at a small temple that he built alongside a road in Aundh area at a cost of Rs 1,60,000, according to news agency PTI.
“I am a follower of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I worship him to take his blessings and the temple would also enable other followers to seek his blessings,” he had said.
Why NCP leaders are disappointed?
Meanwhile, NCP leaders say they have been left “disappointed” after the removal of PM Modi’s statue as they took a jibe at the BJP.
“We had come to the temple and wanted to offer petrol, LPG and food items to the idol as their prices are running at an all-time high. We had decided to pray at the temple to bring down the prices of necessary items, provide employment to youths and solve civic problems of the city but we were disappointed that the bust of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been removed,” city NCP chief Prashant Jagtap was quoted as saying by ANI.
PM Modi’s statue at Pune temple sparks row
Munde’s initiative came under sharp criticism and the Prime Minister’s Office too had raised objections, while local BJP leaders maintained distance from him.
The bust was removed overnight following the controversy.
“It is true that a BJP party worker had created a temple in Aundh where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bust was installed for worship. He might have done so due to his feelings towards the Prime Minister but the party had no information about it. The initiative came under sharp criticism from everywhere and BJP does not accept such behaviour. It seems that due to criticism, he has removed the bust,” PTI quoted Siddharth Shirole, BJP legislator from Shivajinagar constituency, as saying.
BJP to take action
A local BJP leader said that action will be taken against Munde for not informing the party.
“The party worker was pulled up by senior leaders for the temple initiative and he immediately removed it. Also, it is an unauthorised construction,” he said.
