Cyber fraud has been an emerging threat for law enforcement, and Delhi Police is aggressively trying to curb this. Recently, the cyber team of West Delhi Police arrested Tushar Singh Bisht, 23, on charges of cyber extortion. He had created false profiles on Bumble and Snapchat using a virtual international mobile number and fake IDs, claiming himself to be a freelance US-based model.

Targetting Women Aged 18-30

West Delhi DCP said that Tushar used fake social media profiles to target women who were 18-30 years old. He sent them objectionable photos and videos when he trusted them, after which he would be blackmailing them for money. Police recovered a mobile phone, a virtual international mobile number, and 13 credit cards from him.

Dupe Over 700 Women

Tushar befriended over 700 women on dating apps and social media platforms. Tushar would pose as a US-based model visiting India. He won their trust and collected private photos and videos under the pretext of friendship. He then blackmailed them for financial gain using those materials.

How It Was Done

Tushar kept silent initially, but later extorted money threatening to upload their visuals on the net or sell it in the dark web. He messaged more than 500 women on Bumble and more than 200 on Snapchat and WhatsApp.

Case That Exposed Him

The case came to light when a Delhi University student complained on December 3, 2024, at the Cyber Police Station. The victim had befriended Tushar on Bumble in January 2024, which later transitioned to private chats on WhatsApp and Snapchat. After she shared private pictures, Tushar blackmailed her, demanding money. When he continued to harass her despite initial payments, she informed her family, leading to police involvement.

Arrest and Investigation

Tushar was arrested from the Shakarpur area on January 3, 2025. Police recovered more than 60 WhatsApp chat records with women from Delhi and nearby areas. Preliminary investigations revealed that apart from the complainant, Tushar extorted at least four other women in a similar manner.
