Priyanka Gandhi Delivers First Speech in Parliament, Highlights India’s Legacy of Dialogue and Constitution
On Friday, during a discussion on the Constitution in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi made her debut speech in Parliament. She made the observation that India has the richest tradition of dialogue and discussion that finds reflection in philosophical texts, Vedas, and spiritual teachings across Islam, Sufism, Jainism, and Buddhism. This tradition laid the foundation for the independence movement, she added.
Priyanka Gandhi described India's freedom struggle as a unique and non-violent movement rooted in democracy. She said that the people who came together to fight for independence were farmers, youth, and advocates irrespective of religion or caste. She concluded by saying that the voice that emerged from this struggle became the voice of the nation, embodied in the Constitution. It is, she said, a "voice of courage."
