Priyanka Gandhi Stands with Hindus in Bangladesh and Palestine, Offers Support in Parliament
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has once again proved to be a vocal supporter of oppressed minorities. She stood up for Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh. On Monday, Priyanka Gandhi came to Parliament carrying a bag with the message, "Standing with Hindus and Christians of Bangladesh," making a powerful statement on minority rights.
Continued Support for Palestine and Bangladesh
This is days after she was seen showing solidarity with the Palestinians by carrying a similar bag with "Palestine" written on it, along with the picture of a white dove that has become a symbol of peace. On December 16, she made headlines when she made a symbolic protest, and now she has expanded her campaign to address the plight of Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh.
Opposition's Protest in Parliament
The persecution of minorities in Bangladesh sparked a storm within Parliament as the opposition Members of Parliament, led by Priyanka Gandhi, demonstrated inside the house. Equipped with posters and raising slogans like "Wake up, Bangladesh government!" and "Justice for minorities," they voiced out against this continuous violence against Hindus.
The protest of the opposition was echoed with cries of accountability and justice as chants demanded the Bangladesh government to take action against these atrocities. Priyanka Gandhi was an active participant in the demonstration, which underlined her commitment to fighting for minority rights across borders.
Concerns on Violence
Priyanka Gandhi has always been vocal against the growing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. Recently, she reacted strongly to the arrest of an ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das on the charge of sedition calling it a matter of grave concern. Using her social media handle, she called out the Indian government to intervene and firm up.
"The continued violence against minority Hindus and the unjust arrest of ISKCON priests in Bangladesh is extremely concerning. I urge the central government to intervene and ensure the safety of minorities by raising this matter strongly with Bangladesh authorities," Priyanka wrote.
Symbolic Messaging: A New Trend
The symbolic gestures Priyanka Gandhi made since the Palestine bag on December 16 have initiated debate about her approach to political messaging. The addition of a white dove to the Palestine-support bag emphasized peace and solidarity. Her appearance recently with the Bangladesh solidarity bag continues this trend and amplifies calls for justice and human rights.
Minority Persecution in Bangladesh
In recent months, the violence towards Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh has been at a different level. The incidents of desecration of temples, attacks through arson, and targeted assaults have become causes for general concern. Minorities have suffered considerably as well following political unrest and shifts in power in Bangladesh.
Protests and appeals for intervention flared up after the sedition charges were brought against the ISKCON priest, Chinmoy Krishna Das. India has repeatedly raised questions about the safety and rights of minorities in Bangladesh.
