Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Wins Historic Wayanad Bypoll with Record-Breaking Margin
In a major political triumph, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra secured her first electoral victory in the Wayanad bypoll, winning by an overwhelming margin of over 4.10 lakh votes. The victory has not only bolstered Congress’s position in Kerala but also cemented Priyanka’s role as a significant figure in national politics. Priyanka led by 4,10,931 votes, receiving a total of 6,22,338 votes, while her closest competitor, CPI’s Sathyan Mokeri, secured 2,22,407 votes.
The bypoll, which saw a turnout of 65%, had the BJP-led NDA’s Navya Haridas securing third place with 1,09,939 votes. This victory comes at a time when Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s popularity is rising, and political observers believe her performance might surpass her brother Rahul Gandhi’s previous wins in the constituency.
Priyanka expressed deep gratitude to the people of Wayanad through a heartfelt message on X, acknowledging their trust and promising to be their voice in Parliament. “I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me,” she said, also thanking her family, campaign workers, and the UDF coalition for their support.
Leaders from her ally parties, including IUML’s Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and P.K. Kunhalikutty, noted that Priyanka’s margin could surpass Rahul Gandhi’s historic victories in Wayanad. Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also praised Priyanka for her early lead, calling it a “grand win.”
