Pune Man Takes Own Life After Domestic Dispute, Jumps Into River Following Suicide Threat
A tragic incident unfolded in Pune after a domestic argument between a couple ended with the husband taking his own life. Shrikant V Deshmukh, a dry snacks businessman, left his home in Dhankawadi on Sunday morning after a bitter quarrel with his wife, according to police reports.
Following the argument, Deshmukh, in a fit of rage, grabbed his car keys and drove approximately 75 kilometers to the remote Varandha Ghat area in Raigad district, a region that had recently experienced heavy rains. Before going silent, Deshmukh sent his wife his current location along with a chilling message that read, "I am going to commit suicide."
Alarmed by the message, his wife quickly contacted the police, who immediately informed the local authorities. The search for Deshmukh began swiftly, with a rescue team being dispatched from Bhor Police Station, located about 45 kilometers away from the last known location.
Inspector Anna Pawar, in charge of the Bhor Police Station, explained that the search team reached the area and scoured the surroundings. After searching for five kilometers beyond the indicated location, they discovered Deshmukh's abandoned car. The search then intensified, with the help of district officials and volunteers from the local Bhoiraj Manda group.
Authorities later learned that Deshmukh had jumped off a small bridge into the swollen river below. A search downstream was initiated, and after several hours, Deshmukh's body was found in the river that meanders through the Varandha Ghats. The recovery operation took place late into the night, with the body being successfully retrieved around 11 p.m.
On Monday, the body was taken to Bhor, where it underwent an autopsy before being handed over to the family for last rites. Police have registered an accidental death report and are continuing their investigation into the events that led to Deshmukh's tragic decision. Deshmukh is survived by his wife and two young daughters, and initial investigations suggest that the heated argument may have been the catalyst for his actions.
This incident highlights the devastating impact of unresolved domestic conflicts and the importance of seeking help during times of emotional distress.
