Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demands immediate arrest of billionaire Gautam Adani following bribery and fraud allegations by US prosecutors. At a press briefing, Gandhi charged that industrialist Gautam Adani had broken Indian and American laws and that the nation was being chastised worldwide for allegedly protecting him.
US Bribery Allegations Against Gautam Adani
US court documents reveal that Adani and seven other associates had paid $250 million in bribes to Indian officials to command the golden contracts of lucrative solar energy earnings that have yielded over $2 billion in profits. Arrest warrants are issued against Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani; extradition arrangements are in the offing.
Allegations by Rahul Gandhi
Gandhi also accused Adani of using his relations with PM Modi to avoid scrutiny, saying, "Adani has hijacked the country, and India is in his grip." He called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe on the matters of Adani and criticized market regulator Madhabi Buch for not conducting an investigation on the earlier allegations.
The Congress leader also mocked Modi’s campaign slogan, “Ek hain, safe hain,” implying that Adani’s freedom stems from his close relationship with the BJP.

Impact on Adani Companies
The indictment has triggered a financial crisis for Adani’s conglomerate. Shares of Adani Green Energy, a company central to the allegations, plunged, leading to the cancellation of a planned $600 million bond sale. Other Adani stocks and bonds also faced significant declines.
Congress Steps Up Pressure for Accountability
Gandhi repeated Congress's demand for an in-depth probe, saying, "Corruption should be investigated everywhere, starting from Adani". He promised to take up the issue in parliament and accused the BJP of receiving funds from enterprises owned by Adani.
Adani Rejects Allegations
Adani Group rejected the allegations as "baseless" and claiming innocence as the controversy continues to swell with opposition leaders and financial markets reacting to the unfolding scandal.
