Rahul Gandhi Targets Savarkar, BJP Responds with Indira Gandhi's Letter

Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde invoked a letter by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Saturday, citing that she had praised the Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Referring to a 1980 letter, Shinde stated that Indira Gandhi had referred to Savarkar as the "remarkable son of India."
Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Shinde asked, "Does this mean your grandmother was against the Constitution? You often criticize your own family. We are proud of Savarkar's contributions and will continue to honor him."
The Congressman then responded to the comments that, "I had an argument over this with Indira Gandhi Ji. According to her, Savarkar wrote letters to British soliciting mercy and adjustment that leaders like Gandhi Ji, who chose jail terms and Jawaharlal Nehru Ji who chose jail term
Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared Indira Gandhi's letter on social media, countering Rahul's statement. Rijiju said, "This document is for Rahul Gandhi Ji as he made incorrect remarks about Veer Savarkar in Lok Sabha."
