The IMD has forecast heavy fog on December 24 and 25, with the minimum temperature dropping to 6°C and the maximum around 22°C. Cloudy skies will persist, and nighttime temperatures may fall further by 1-2°C. Rain is expected on December 26, with thunderstorms likely on December 27 and 28.
Cold Wave and Rain Alert for North India
Punjab and Haryana: The IMD has issued a cold wave alert for December 23-25, with dense fog likely in some areas.
Himachal Pradesh: Severe cold continues, with an orange alert for freezing temperatures in Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, and Mandi districts. Light rain and snowfall are expected in hilly regions.
Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh: Cold wave conditions are predicted from December 23-26, with snowfall and hailstorms expected between December 27-28.
Rain Forecast for Southern States
Andhra Pradesh: Coastal regions may experience heavy rainfall from December 23-26.
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry: Moderate rain is expected in many areas from December 24-26. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period.
Odisha: Light to moderate rain is likely in some areas on December 24-25.
Western Disturbances to Impact Rajasthan
From December 26, a strong western disturbance is expected to hit northwest India. This may lead to rain and snowfall in southwest Rajasthan and neighboring states on December 27-28. Hailstorms are also likely in parts of the region.
Severe Cold Grips Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh continues to experience extreme cold, with temperatures plummeting to minus 11.6°C in Tabo and minus 4.6°C in Srinagar. An orange alert has been issued for the next three days, with light snowfall expected in higher altitudes.
Travel Advisory
The IMD has advised caution for travelers due to dense fog in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Visibility is expected to remain low in the early mornings on December 23-25. Fishermen in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry have been warned against venturing into the sea due to adverse weather conditions.
