Rajasthan: Illegal opium poppy worth Rs 5 crore seized in Churu

Churu, Rajasthan: In a significant bust, Bhani Pura police seized illegal opium poppy worth approximately ₹5 crore from a container and arrested one smuggler in Sardarshahr.
Under the leadership of DSP Anil Kumar Maheshwari, the Bhani Pura police, in collaboration with the District Special Police Team, conducted the largest operation in the Sikar division to date. They intercepted a container carrying 30 quintals, 75 kilograms, and 300 grams of illegal opium poppy. The arrested smuggler, Daljit Singh, a 43-year-old resident of Punjab, was taken into custody, and under the new laws, he was also handcuffed.
DSP Anil Kumar Maheshwari provided details of the operation, stating that Bhani Pura Station Officer Rai Singh Suthar and his team, along with the District Special Police Team, set up a checkpoint in front of the Bhani Pura police station. During the blockade, they stopped a container coming from Sardarshahr and discovered a large quantity of illegal opium poppy hidden beneath sacks of rice.
The police documented the entire operation with video recordings as they seized the container and its illicit contents. DSP Maheshwari emphasized that this operation is the largest of its kind in the Sikar division. He praised the ongoing efforts of Bhani Pura Station Officer Rai Singh Suthar and his team, who have been conducting successive major operations against narcotics under the NDPS Act.

The arrested smuggler, Daljit Singh, is known for his expertise in interstate smuggling. He modified his container with a closed body and labeled it as a postal parcel, cleverly hiding the illegal substances beneath sacks of rice.
This is the second major operation against narcotics by the Bhani Pura police since the implementation of the new law. The operation involved the coordinated efforts of Bhani Pura Station Officer Rai Singh Suthar, Head Constable Ramchandra Budania, Constables Rajendra Prasad, Kuldeep Singh, Anil Kumar Sharma, Pawan Kumar, Mahendra Pratap, Jai Singh, Vinod Kumar, Manish Kumar, and the District Special Police Team led by SI Veerendra Singh, along with Constables Mukesh, Ajay, Moharpal, Mukesh, Pramod Prajapat, Dharmendra, and Bhim Singh.
The swift and coordinated action by the police has been widely praised and is seen as a significant step in combating the illegal drug trade in the region.
