Rakesh Tikait Urges Government to Release Jailed Farmers and Start Dialogue

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait appealed for the government to free all farmers from jails and provided a healthy environment for conversation. According to him, farmers are peaceful protesters against their rights, not to be portrayed as criminals.

Farmers Recently Jailed

163 protesting farmers at the Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida were recently sent to Luksar Jail in Greater Noida. This move of arrest had created a furore in the farming fraternity and had called for protests.

Rakesh Tikait

Tikait said that there is an urgent need for mutual respect between the government and farmers. He said, "Farmers are not criminals but agitators who fight for justice.".
The government should hold respectful conversations with them to address their grievances.
The first step for ending the ongoing tensions would be the release of all jailed farmers.

Farmers' Demands

All jailed farmers should be immediately and unconditionally released

Structured dialogue to address grievances

Implementation of solutions that would end long-standing agriculture-related issues

Call for peaceful protests

Tikait asked farmers to remain united and calm and present their demands with full force. He feared that the movement may aggravate if the government takes time to respond.

Way Forward

BKU along with other farmer organizations, are demanding a peaceful end through constructive dialogue. The appeal of Tikait depicts that instead of confrontation; there should be collaboration with the government to resolve farmers' issues.
