Rampur, Uttar Pradesh: The suspension of a female teacher in Rampur's Tanda tehsil has ignited widespread protests and calls for action against the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) who allegedly harassed her. The incident came to light during a public grievance day, where students and parents from Kishanpur Ateria Primary School gathered before the District Magistrate, demanding the reinstatement of the suspended headmistress and action against the CMO for alleged misconduct.

Allegations of Harassment and Misconduct

According to the students, the teacher, Asma Parveen, was highly respected and treated them well. During the protest, a former student, Shagun, spoke to the media, praising the teacher and recounting the alleged harassment by the CMO, who reportedly made inappropriate demands. The teacher allegedly responded to the harassment by stating she would bring a gun if the behavior continued.

The controversy stems from a visit by the CMO to the school on July 11, during which he allegedly harassed the headmistress. Following the visit, the CMO filed a complaint with the District Magistrate, leading to the teacher's suspension on July 25 and the issuance of a charge sheet on August 16. Asma Parveen has accused the CMO of making indecent proposals, which she rejected, leading to her suspension as a retaliatory action.

Teacher Denies Misconduct, Alleges Unethical Proposal

Asma Parveen, who has been in her position for 13 years, explained that during the CMO's visit, she offered him the usual hospitality and showed him around the school. However, she alleges that the CMO made inappropriate remarks about her appearance and repeatedly asked her to take photos with him, which made her uncomfortable. She claims that the CMO's intentions became clear when he suggested they move to a secluded part of the school, where he made explicit comments.

In response to these advances, Parveen reportedly told the CMO that she would bring a gun if necessary. She expressed regret for not responding more strongly and described the incident as a severe violation of her dignity.

Administrative Response and Ongoing Investigations

The Basic Education Officer of Rampur, Raghavendra Singh, stated that the CMO had reported the incident during a departmental meeting, describing the teacher's behavior as inappropriate for her position. The teacher was issued a notice on August 6, requiring her to explain her conduct within three days, failing which further action would be taken.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the treatment of female educators and the need for a thorough investigation into the allegations of harassment. The situation remains tense, with protests continuing and demands for justice growing louder.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus is on ensuring that the allegations are properly addressed and that both the teacher's and the students' rights are protected. The case has highlighted the challenges faced by women in positions of authority and the importance of maintaining the dignity and integrity of educational institutions.
