Why the Controversy Over Savarkar? NSUI Writes to PM, Demands DU College Be Renamed After Manmohan Singh
A controversy has erupted in Delhi over naming a Delhi University (DU) college after Veer Savarkar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay its foundation stone on January 3. In protest, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has written to the PM, demanding the college be named after former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh instead.
NSUI’s Demands
They demanded that the college and a central university be named after Dr. Manmohan Singh. They proposed including his life journey in the curricula and also his contribution to education and policy-making.

The letter focuses on the leadership of Dr Singh in the field of education sector by referring to the Central Universities Act of 2009 and the Right to Education Act with the establishment of IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS, across the length and breadth of the country.
