The contempt notice and its promulgation against the officials and centre, state governments will not solve the oxygen crisis being faced by the National capital, the Supreme Court as it stayed Delhi High Court’s contempt notice against officials on May 5, 2021.
This comes hours after a contempt notice was issued by the Delhi High Court against the officials for not following its orders.
However, the Supreme Court ordered the Central government to prepare a comprehensive plan to ensure 700 metric tonnes of oxygen for Delhi.

The bench which comprised Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah also suggested the central government take notes from the ‘Mumbai Model’ and ensure Delhi doesn’t suffer lack of oxygen.
“Between the Centre and State putting officers in jail or hauling them up for contempt, the people of Delhi won’t get oxygen,” the Supreme Court said.
“We direct that by 10.30 am tomorrow, the Centre shall place a comprehensive plan in the form of a chart, indicating the manner in which the direction for allocation of 700 metric tonnes shall be complied with,” the court said.
“We do not want contempt proceedings. We want action on the ground,” the court said.
“We are in the process of going to 700 metric tonnes of Oxygen…on May 4 we could reach 585 tonnes,” it said.
“The Centre is doing its best…Otherwise what will happen? If you get oxygen from another state, that state will also suffer,” Justice Shah said.
