Security Forces Engage Militants in Gunfight in Srinagar Khanyar

Nov 2, 2024 - Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir - A fierce gun battle has erupted between security forces and suspected militants in the Khanyar area of Srinagar today. Inputs had suggested that two or three militants were present in the area, prompting security forces to launch a search operation this morning. As the joint security team neared the suspected hideout, militants opened fire on them, and forces retaliated. The sporadic gunfight has continued as the forces intensified search operations in the area.

Ongoing Counter-Insurgency Operations in Jammu & Kashmir

The Jammu & Kashmir security forces have been conducting round-the-clock anti-terror operations to foil the infiltration and foil the planned attacks by the militants. Militants have been increasingly trying to infiltrate the borders and commit violent acts, which the security forces are diligently countering. The operations are intended to maintain safety and stability in the region amidst growing threats.

Surge in Targeted Killings Across Jammu & Kashmir

Since the establishment of the new government in Jammu & Kashmir, targeted killings have increased within the Union Territory. In the past few days, several shooting incidents have killed many civilians. Recently, two migrant laborers from Uttar Pradesh were injured when militants opened fire in Budgam. They are being treated at a local hospital. Earlier, in a different incident in Ganderbal, at least seven civilians were also reported to be killed. Such incidents have indicated an alarming increase in targeted violence and have spread grave concern amongst the local populace and administration.

Attack on Migrant workers in Budgam

Migrant workers were attacked on Friday by unknown people near Magam at Budgam's Mazhama area. Two laborers engaged in Jal Jeevan Project suffered gunshot injuries. Both were taken to a hospital nearby. They haled from Uttar Pradesh.

Yet again, on the earlier date of this week, militant attacked an army ambulance of Battal area of Akhnoor and it fired upon that vehicle without any casualties as security personals were able to thwart possible attack. The three terrorists involved in that attack got neutralized when the armies conducted search operations later at the scene. A quantity of ammunition has been brought out from the scene shows that there was planning before the attack for further attacks.
