Sukhbir Badal’s Attacker Linked to Pakistan: Know Who Narayan Singh Chaura Is

Punjab witnessed a shocking incident on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, when Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal was attacked at Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. while Badal was performing seva. A man fired a shot at him, but the SAD leader escaped unhurt. The attacker was overpowered by people at the scene and handed over to the police.

Who is Narayan Singh Chaura?

The attacker was identified as Narayan Singh Chaura, a former Khalistan Liberation Army member who has long been defunct. Reports from The Indian Express reveal that Chora has a history of criminal activities, including aiding in the smuggling of arms and explosives into Punjab. He has previously served a prison sentence and was also implicated in the notorious Burail jailbreak case.

Pakistan Connection

Chaura is believed to have escaped to Pakistan in 1984, where he allegedly provided arms smuggling for separatist operations in Punjab. In Pakistan, he also wrote literature on guerrilla warfare and anti-national ideologies. This link highlights the international nature of his activities.

Long-term surveillance and police response

Sources revealed that Chaura had been under police surveillance and was spotted roaming near the Golden Temple a day before the attack. Despite security measures in place, he managed to carry out the attack. The police claimed that they acted in time to catch him before causing harm. However, SAD leaders have criticized the alleged security lapses.

ADCP Harpal Singh said that Chaura entered the premises, offered prayers, and then launched the attack. The police are now investigating his motives and connections.
