Originally from the Fazilka region of Punjab, Sunil had been under the scanner for running a vast drug network, smuggling narcotics from Pakistan into Punjab. Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility
The Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, a notorious criminal syndicate operating in North India, has publicly claimed responsibility for Sunil Yadav's murder via a social media post. The gang's key associates, including Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar, reportedly stated:
Allegation of Informing the Police: They accused Sunil of tipping off the police about the gang's operations multiple times, which caused significant setbacks for their members.
Revenge for Ankit Bhadu's Encounter: The post also faults Sunil for supposedly working with Punjab Police to help create an encounter in which the gangster Ankit Bhadu, associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, died. It says Sunil's murder in California was revenge.

The gang disclosed details about the murder scene in Stockton, California, by mentioning the address where Sunil was shot. According to their statement, Sunil ran to the US because of the looming threat on his life but continued acting as an informant for Punjab Police, which sealed his fate.
