Supreme Court Issues Notice to Karnataka Government in DK Shivakumar Asset Case

New Delhi/Bengaluru, Sept. 17 — The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to the Karnataka government, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and the Lokayukta in connection with a case involving alleged illegal accumulation of assets by Shivakumar. This decision follows a petition filed by BJP legislator Basangouda Patil Yatnal, challenging the state government's decision to withdraw the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case against Shivakumar.

The Supreme Court has postponed further proceedings for four weeks, directing the respondents to submit their counterarguments. This development comes after Yatnal's petition was dismissed by the High Court on August 29. The High Court had suggested that the matter be reviewed by the Supreme Court, considering its significance.

Yatnal's petition argues that the state's move to withdraw the CBI case was improper and seeks judicial review. The Supreme Court's notice signifies that the case will be under examination to determine the legality of the state government's actions regarding the investigation.

The issue centers on allegations of illicit wealth accumulation by DK Shivakumar, a prominent figure in the Karnataka government. The case has drawn considerable attention, reflecting ongoing tensions and scrutiny within Karnataka's political landscape.

The Supreme Court's decision to review the case underscores the judicial system's role in addressing high-profile corruption allegations and ensuring accountability within the state administration.
