Swift Response to Dibrugarh Train Derailment Shuts Lumding Division Tracks

DIBRUGARH, Assam — A train derailment occurred near Assam's Dibrugarh station on Monday afternoon, as eight coaches of the Lokmanya Tilak Express went off the tracks. Fortunately, railway officials have reported that there were no casualties in the incident.

The derailment took place in the Lumding Division's Lumding-Badarpur Hill section. Senior officials, along with rescue and medical relief trains, have already been dispatched from Lumding to oversee rescue and restoration efforts at the site. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also shared information about the derailment on his official X handle.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. The train, which departed from Agartala earlier in the morning and was heading toward Mumbai, derailed at Dibrugarh station. According to railway officials, the engine and eight coaches, including a power car, went off the track.

The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway confirmed that the Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express derailed in the Lumding Division’s Lumding-Badarpur Hill section. The CPRO stated that there were no casualties or serious injuries reported as a result of the derailment.

Rescue and Restoration Underway

Senior officials from the division, along with rescue and relief medical teams, have already reached the site. The single-line Lumding-Badarpur section has been closed to train operations until the tracks are restored.

Relief teams, including the accident relief train and medical relief team, are currently monitoring rescue and restoration activities at the scene. Railway officials confirmed that the relief teams arrived promptly to ensure quick action in restoring the tracks and ensuring passengers’ safety.

Helpline Numbers Released

The CPRO also announced that train operations in the Lumding-Badarpur single-line section have been temporarily halted. Helpline numbers 03674 263120 and 03674 263126 have been issued for passenger inquiries.

Authorities are working to ensure that the affected section is restored at the earliest to resume train services smoothly. No injuries or fatalities have been reported, but railway officials are monitoring the site to prevent any further disruptions.
