Tamil Nadu: Devotee's iPhone Falls into Temple Donation Box, Declared 'God's Property
In a bizarre incident at the Sri Kandaswamy Temple in Thiruporur, Tamil Nadu, a devotee's iPhone accidentally fell into the temple's donation box (hundi). When the devotee, Dinesh, approached the temple authorities to retrieve his phone, he was told that it had now become the "property of God."
How the Incident Unfolded
Dinesh, who lives in Chennai, had visited the temple six months ago. As he was making a donation, his iPhone slipped into the hundi. After that, he contacted the temple officials and told them that all the donations made in the hundi are sacred and are the property of the deity. They also told him that the donation box is opened only once in two months and asked him to wait for that period.
When the hundi was finally opened on December 20, Dinesh went back to collect his phone. However, the temple administration remained adamant, insisting that the phone was now "God's property." They did offer him the option to retrieve important data from the SIM card.
Temple Official's Statement
The temple's executive officer said he is not sure whether Dinesh wanted to donate the phone. He might have offered it as a donation and later changed his mind. They also emphasized that the iron hundi is quite secure and things cannot fall into it accidentally.
Social Media Sparks Debate
The incident has sparked debate on social media, with users humorously speculating that the iPhone might have been seeking divine intervention for better battery life or camera quality. Others raised philosophical questions about whether technology could be considered a sacred offering.
