Telangana CM Rejects ₹100 Crore Donation from Adani Group Amid Controversy
In light of allegations against the Adani Group, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy declined a ₹100 crore donation for a state university, citing the need to uphold Telangana’s honor and avoid controversy. A letter to Dr. Preeti Adani confirmed the decision, despite prior tax exemptions for the university.
In light of allegations against the Adani Group in the U.S., Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has refused a ₹100 crore donation offered by the group for the Young India Skills University. The decision was announced on November 25 to avoid controversy and uphold the state's dignity.
In a letter to Dr. Preeti Adani, the Special Chief Secretary, Jayesh Ranjan thanked her for the donation but communicated that the state government does not intend to accept the money since there are outstanding disputes related to the group. The letter underlined that going ahead with the transfer was strictly forbidden by the Chief Minister even though the university recently secured tax exemption under Section 80G.
Facing criticism from opposition parties like BRS and BJP for alleged ties with the Adani Group, CM Reddy clarified that the decision was made to protect Telangana's honor and avoid any unwanted controversies involving him or his cabinet. He stated, "We have not taken a single rupee from anyone." The decision underscores the government’s intent to maintain transparency and independence amid growing political debates.
