Terrorist Attack on Sunjwan Military Station: A search operation is underway to neutralize the terrorists who attacked the army camp. The entire area is being cordoned off.
In a cowardly act of terrorism, militants have once again targeted Jammu and Kashmir. On Monday, September 2, terrorists opened fire at the Sunjwan Military Station in Jammu, injuring an army soldier. Defense officials confirmed that the terrorists fired shots from outside the base, wounding one soldier. A search operation is currently in progress to locate the attackers.
Details of the Attack
The attack occurred near the sentry post area of the Sunjwan Military Station, where the 36 Infantry Brigade is stationed. According to reports from the Press Trust of India (PTI), suspicious activities were observed outside the military station, prompting soldiers to open fire. This led to increased vigilance and the immediate launch of a search operation. Officials stated that a soldier spotted suspicious individuals near the Sunjwan station, located on the outskirts of the city, and fired shots.
Search Operation Underway
Following the exchange of gunfire, there have been no reports of any suspects being killed or captured. However, the army, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police, quickly cordoned off the area for an intensive search operation. This is not the first time the Sunjwan Military Station has been targeted. In February 2018, terrorists attacked the camp, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers, a civilian, and three terrorists.
Ongoing Threats at the LOC
The attack comes just days after Indian security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt near the Line of Control (LOC) in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on August 31. After spotting suspicious activities, a firefight ensued between the infiltrating terrorists and the Indian Army. Last week, at least three terrorists were killed in two separate encounters along the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district.
This recent attack highlights the persistent threat posed by terrorist elements in the region and the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and security along the volatile borders of Jammu and Kashmir.
