Who Was Tulsi Gowda?
Tulsi Gowda, popularly known as the "Encyclopedia of Forest", was never enrolled in school but was revered for her vast knowledge on trees, plants, and medicinal herbs. She is a member of the Halakki tribal community and had been working to preserve the environment since over six decades by planting and nurturing more than 30,000 trees.

Tulsi’s connection with nature began in her childhood when she assisted her mother in a nursery. By the age of 20, she had committed herself to environmental conservation, a cause she pursued until her last breath. Known for her simplicity, she accepted the Padma Shri award in 2021 barefoot and dressed in traditional attire, symbolizing her deep-rooted connection to the earth.
