Two women devotees were killed, and five others were injured on Monday morning in a road accident near Tirupati. They were walking to Tirumala when an ambulance ran them over.

The incident happened at 4 a.m. between Rangampeta and Mangapuram in Tirupati district. Police said a 108-ambulance, which was traveling from Piler, rammed into the group of devotees from the rear.

"A total of seven devotees were hit by the ambulance. Unfortunately, two of them died on the spot, and five others were injured," a police official reported. A case has been registered under Section 106 Clause 1 of the BNS for further investigation.

Tirupati Superintendent of Police L. Subba Rayudu suggested that dense fog and low visibility might have contributed to the accident.

He cautioned the pilgrims trekking to the temple to be careful and to use the side of the road to avoid accidents, especially during winter mornings when fog reduces visibility significantly.

The authorities have condoled the families of the dead and are monitoring the recovery of the injured victims.
