Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2021, presented Union Budget 2021 in the parliament.

“Only three times has the Budget followed a contraction in the economy this time, unlike before, the situation is due to a global pandemic,” Sitharaman said.

Union Budget 2021 provided every opportunity for economy to capture pace and grow sustainably, she added.

Union Budget 2021: Big announcements

Delivering her Budget speech, she allocated Rs. 35, 000 crore for the COVID-19 vaccination across the country. Besides this, she also announced to launch of PM Aatmnirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojna with an outlay of Rs. Rs 64,180 crore.

To encourage investment in the country, FM Sitharaman announced an increase of 25 per cent in Foreign Direct Investment. Now a total of 74 per cent FDI is allowed in the country. Earlier it stood at 49 per cent.

In order to develop financial institutions, FM Sitharaman allocated Rs. 20, 000 crore for the development of the financial institutions across the country.

To give a boost to the fight against the pollution, Finance Minister declared to introduce new scrapping policy to phase out the old vehicles.

Besides this, Finance Minister also allocated an outlay of Rs. 2, 217 crore for urban centres to fight air pollution.
