UP New Excise Policy 2024: The Uttar Pradesh government’s new excise policy has merged beer and foreign liquor shops into composite liquor stores. Under this new system, 186 composite liquor stores will open in Meerut, allowing customers to buy both beer and foreign liquor from a single shop.

With this policy change, the excise department in Meerut expects to generate over ₹1000 crore in revenue.

E-Lottery for Liquor Shops Started on February 14

The process of allotting liquor shops in Meerut began online on February 14 and will continue until February 27. The government has introduced an e-lottery system to ensure transparency in license distribution.

So far, applications have been pouring in, and the excise department has already recorded a business of ₹800 crore this year. Officials estimate that by the end of the financial year, revenue will cross ₹900 crore.

Meerut to Have 382 Liquor Shops
Meerut currently has:

382 liquor shops
7 model liquor shops

Increased liquor and beer quotas to meet rising demand

The country liquor quota has been raised from 11.74 lakh liters per month, and the beer quota has been increased from ₹145 crore to ₹197 crore.

Single License for Both Liquor and Beer Shops

Previously, separate licenses were required for beer and foreign liquor shops in Uttar Pradesh. Now, under the new excise policy, both will operate under a single license, and their revenues will be merged.

District Excise Officer Pradeep Kumar Singh stated that this new policy will increase excise revenue by 10%, benefiting both the government and shop owners.
