Pensioners' Forum Writes to CM Yogi Over 6-Month Pension Delay, Warns of Legal Action

The Pensioners' Forum has raised serious concerns over the non-payment of pensions for the last six months to retired employees of the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam. In a letter dated 31/09/2025 (likely a clerical error), the Forum has appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for immediate intervention.

Signed by General Secretary Anand Awasthi and Minister P.L. Yadav, the letter highlights the financial distress faced by thousands of retired employees who are unable to meet basic needs due to the stalled payments. Many are reportedly borrowing money or selling assets to survive.

The Forum expressed frustration over the lack of clarity and communication from the concerned departments and demanded that pension arrears be cleared without further delay.

Opposition to Branded Medicine Ban

In a separate statement, the Forum announced its opposition to the May 16, 2025 decision to discontinue branded medicines for pensioners. It warned that the move could put chronically ill elderly patients at serious risk — with 7% being over 70, 5% over 80, and 2% over 85 years of age.

Key Demands from the Forum:

  • Immediate release of six months' pending pension.

  • Withdrawal of the decision to stop branded medicines for pensioners.

  • Accountability from departments delaying pension disbursements.

The Forum stated that if no action is taken, it will be forced to seek legal redress through the courts.
