Using Drugs Isn’t Cool: Supreme Court Warns Youth
Expressing grave concern about the alarming rise of youth drug abuse in India, it said taking drugs was simply not "cool" anymore. This was during as the court allowed permission to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe the alleged international drug smuggling case involving suspected heroin smuggler Ankush Vipin Kapoor from India into Pakistan by sea route.
The bench called for parents and society and state authorities alike to come together and effectively prevent the spread of such drug abuse. It indicated that effective law enforcement coupled with stiff social initiatives could be essential in checking the increasing phenomenon of substance misuse. Going further, it directed the NALSA to issue guidelines seeking to create awareness and limit drug-related crimes. The stern warning from the Court is also a reminder that drug use is no trend or statement of 'coolness'—it's a severe threat to the health and future of India's youth.
