Uttar Pradesh: A man in Kaushambi district is fighting for justice on behalf of his rooster, which he claimed his neighbor killed. Shivram attached himself so much to the pet rooster that he went to the police station and filed a complaint against the neighbour with charges of murder against the accused.
Shivram is a labourer hailing from Jwai village in Pipri police station area. He was beside himself with grief as his rooster was killed by his neighbour, the report said. According to him, the rooster was playing on some cow dung lying in the neighbor's yard when the neighbor reportedly struck it with a brick, killing it. Shivram promptly moved to the neighbour's house to complain. He was, however, given verbal abuse and attacked corporally. A scuffle ensued; others, however, intervened to calm down the situation. Having lost his brother, however, Shivram moved to lodge a complaint at the Lodhour police post, demanding a murder charge against the accused.
Chowki Incharge Atul Ranjan Tiwari said the police are investigating the case and have also called the other party for questioning. Under the legal provisions of section 429, the killing of a pet animal valued over Rs 50 can result in up to five years of imprisonment.
He had taken extreme care for the rooster. He offered him all food and water, as well as keeping the bird next to him during his sleep. It is this emotional attachment that he had with his pet which has made him so hollow over its untimely death. Thus, there is nothing but justice that he wants and accountability of the neighbor against his wrong doings.
