Uttar Pradesh Police Kill Jewelry Heist Suspect in Unnao Encounter: Sultanpur Gold Robbery Mastermind Anuj Pratap Singh Shot Dead, Bolero Owner Arrested, 2.7 kg Loot Recovered
In a significant development, Uttar Pradesh police have shot dead a suspect involved in the Sultanpur jewelry shop heist. According to an official, the encounter took place in Achalganj, Unnao, where the STF (Special Task Force) team from Lucknow clashed with two armed criminals. During the confrontation, one suspect was injured and later declared dead at the hospital, while the other managed to escape. The deceased has been identified as Anuj Pratap Singh.
Details of the Encounter
Police received a tip-off about the whereabouts of the suspects involved in the Sultanpur heist, reportedly roaming in Achalganj. Upon spotting the police, both suspects attempted to flee and later opened fire at the officers. The police retaliated, resulting in Anuj being injured. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The second suspect managed to flee the scene, and the police are actively searching for him. Anuj Pratap Singh was a resident of Janapur village in Amethi. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Previous Arrests and Investigation
Earlier, another suspect, Mangesh Yadav, was killed in an encounter, and Ajay, one of the masterminds behind the heist, was arrested two days ago. Ajay had a bounty of ₹1 lakh on his head. So far, the police have arrested five individuals in connection with the Sultanpur jewelry shop robbery, including Arvind, Durgesh Singh, Vivek Singh, Ajay Yadav, and Vinay Shukla.
Jewelry Shop Heist: What Happened?
On August 28, a group of armed robbers stormed Om Ornaments in Sultanpur's Thatheri Bazaar, looting gold and diamond jewelry. The masked assailants held the shop owner and employees at gunpoint during the robbery. Following the incident, the police placed a bounty of ₹1 lakh on each of the suspects involved in the heist.
Recovery of Loot and Arrest of Bolero Owner
The police have recovered 2.7 kg of gold and diamond jewelry that had been stolen during the heist. Additionally, the Bolero SUV used by the robbers has been seized, and its owner, Tribhuvan Kori, has been arrested.
The STF is continuing its investigation and searching for the remaining suspect, while the police have intensified security measures in the region to prevent further incidents.
