A car hit a woman and dragged her for almost 4 kilometers from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in the early hours of Sunday. The 20-year-old died in the accident and her body was found almost an hour later, said police.
The victim, Anjali Singh, an event organiser by profession, was returning from work when the incident took place. Police have arrested the five men who were in the car.
“What happened to our sister in Kanjhawala is very shameful. I hope that the culprits will be punished severely,” Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said on Twitter.
Delhi L-G V K Saxena took to Twitter to express his shock over the ‘inhuman crime’ and said: “My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Kanjhawala-Sultanpuri today morning and I am shocked by the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators”.
He has assured every possible support to the family of the victim. “I appeal to all to not resort to opportunistic scavenging. Let’s together work towards a more responsible and sensitive society,” he said.
Swati Maliwal, Delhi Commission for Women chief, has also taken cognisance of the matter and has issued notice to the Delhi Police. “It is being told that some boys in an inebriated state hit her scooty with a car and dragged her for several kilometres. This matter is very dangerous, I am issuing appearance summons to Delhi Police. The whole truth should come out,” she tweeted.
