Weather News: Heavy rainfall is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Lightning at isolated places over Gujarat state, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, Marathwada, Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Squally winds are very likely over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area may move west northwestwards, it might concentrate into a depression over the southeast and adjoining the east-central Bay of Bengal during the next 8 hours.

Weather News: IMD Forecast for Tomorrow (December 1)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Gujarat state. Heavy rainfall over Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra.

Thunderstorm with lightning and squall is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Also, lightning at isolated places over Rajasthan, West MP, Gujarat state, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, Marathwada, Kerala and Mahe, Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

A day ago, IMD has also issued a red alert for the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengelpet, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam. Along with Pudukottai, Tuticorin, Ariyalur, Permbalur, Dindigul, Ranipettai, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore.

Monsoon rains continue to lash several regions of Tamil Nadu. CM MK Stalin Saturday paid a visit to the inundated areas and monitored initiatives aimed at mitigation and relief efforts.

MK Stalin quoting experts tweeted, “in the past 200 years, this is the fourth time Chennai recorded 1,000 MM (100 CM) rainfall in a single month.”

Heavy rains and waterlogging in Tamilnadu

The weather department also warned of thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rains over north coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.

Moreover, a thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely at a few places over Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Salem, Dharmapuri. Besides Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Erode and Nilgiris districts of Tamilnadu are also likely to receive thunderstorms.

Besides, a thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur at most places over the rest of Tamilnadu.

Furthermore, a person was washed away in Thuraiyur as the paddy fields got submerged and the tank at Keerambur village breached. This comes after incessant rains that lashed the Trichy district.

Rainwater also flooded the streets and houses in the village as the rainwater overflowed from the tank.

Mudslides have also occurred at several spots. CM Stalin met governor RN Ravi a day ago. The waterlogging and relief efforts were discussed in the state.

Nagapattinam and Cuddalore are the most affected districts due to heavy rains.

Owing to a higher inflow into the Poondi reservoir after the heavy rains, PWD authorities Sunday released surplus water from the reservoir.
