Weather News: Wet conditions will sweep parts of southern India till January 18, however, rainfall intensity is expected to remain significantly light.
The fresh spell of rainfall over the region will be the result of two cyclonic circulations (CC). According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), one cyclonic circulation is present over the southwest Bay of Bengal, while the other is located over south Tamil Nadu at lower tropospheric levels.
As a result, isolated light showers and thunderstorms are expected over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe till January 18.
Many districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Karaikal, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Ranipet, Ariyallur, Madurai, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari will get light to moderate rain until January 17.
Similarly, light to moderate rainfall is likely over districts in Kerala including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram until January 17.
Weather News: Yellow Watch
IMD has placed Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry under yellow watch for 48 hours and then again on January 18. Residents have been urged to be aware of the local weather situation.
No weather alert has been issued for the state given the low intensity of rainfall over Kerala.
Chennai can expect generally cloudy skies with light rain while Kochi could see partly cloudy skies with moderate rain and thunderstorms.
As far as mercury levels are concerned, maximum temperatures of 31°C and minimum around 24°C are likely to be witnessed in both Kochi and Chennai.
