When Is a Name Removed from the Voter List? Election Commission Responds to Sanjay Singh's Allegations

The Election Commission has flatly rejected charges levied by Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh relating to voter list discrepancies. The latter claimed that district election officers have removed voter list names en masse without supplying sufficient information to the objectors. The commission described these claims as entirely meritless and lacking factual support.

Explanation about Dropping Names in Voter List

The commission said that the process of deletion of a name from the voter list is done strictly as per the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The process starts with Form 7 submission, followed by proper field verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other officials. Just submitting a list does not start the process of deletion.

Transparency Measures in Place

To ensure transparency, the ECI shares a summary of Form 7, which includes names of objectors and respondents, with all recognized political parties, including AAP, on a weekly basis via Form 10. This information is also made publicly accessible on the official website of the CEO Delhi.

Response to Sanjay Singh's Wife's Case

On allegations that the name of Sanjay Singh's wife has been removed from the voter list, the commission clarified that the two complaints filed in this regard were baseless, and FIRs have been registered against the complainants.

The Election Commission reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and accuracy in voter list management, dismissing claims of deliberate voter suppression as unfounded.
