Who Fired in Sambhal? UP Police Break Silence on 4 Deaths, Issues Major Statement

Four deaths at Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal remain unanswered. Although the violence after a survey has calmed down, it still doesn't give any clear-cut answer on who fired the shots that proved fatal for those four individuals.

UP Police have said that they fired only warning shots in the air to disperse the crowd. Sambhal SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said that none of the bullets that caused the death were fired from police weapons. A viral video has been doing rounds showing a police officer firing, but the authorities say it was not at anybody.

According to reports, the police allegedly used pellet guns during the rioting, but autopsies showed that the bullets used were from.315 bore firearms. The relatives of the victims accuse the police, but Divisional Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh of Moradabad refutes these allegations, stating that all the available evidence shows that three groups of rioters had a shooting match among themselves.

Singh further added that parents must take responsibility if their children were involved in the unrest. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are awaiting forensic reports to clarify how the victims died and who fired the shots.

Tightened Security and Arrests

The security has been increased in the wake of violence. On December 6, two weeks after the clashes, 500 people gathered at the Jama Masjid for prayers under strict police surveillance, including drone monitoring.

So far, 34 people have been arrested, and 400 suspects have been identified, with 11 FIRs registered. The district remains under restrictions, with no external movement allowed until December 10 as police continue their investigation.
