Agra: Gutkha Addiction Sparks Husband-Wife Conflict, Police Involvement Leads to Counseling

In a surprising case from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, a husband and wife’s relationship took a turn due to an unusual conflict over gutkha consumption. Married in 2022 with two children, the husband was addicted to gutkha and would bring packets home every night. Eventually, his wife also developed the habit after observing him, leading to a growing addiction.

The conflict reached a peak one night when the wife consumed the gutkha her husband had brought. When the husband couldn't find his packet, he became furious, sparking a heated argument. The situation escalated, and the husband left his wife at her parental home. After several days without reconciliation, the wife lodged a police complaint.

The police transferred the case to a family counseling center, where counselor Dr. Satish Khirwar mediated. Both the husband and wife were counseled on the harmful effects of gutkha addiction. After hearing both sides, a mutual understanding was reached, and the couple agreed to quit gutkha. They resolved their differences and returned home together.

This case highlights the rising issue of gutkha addiction and its impact on relationships, while also stressing the importance of counseling in resolving such disputes.
