Will BJP Government Fall in This State? Ally Withdraws Support
A significant political development in the state has occurred when National People's Party, led by Conrad Sangma, withdrew support for the BJP government. The level of anxiety in the state has been rising over continued ethnic violence and accusations of administrative failure from the chief minister N Biren Singh.
NPP Pulls Support from BJP Amid Manipur Unrest
The NPP has formally communicated its decision to BJP National President JP Nadda through a letter saying it was unable to see how the Biren Singh government was going to stop violence in the state and return things to normal. The party is not satisfied with the ethnic clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities since last May. Such conflicts have called for widespread unrest, causing several casualties, including women and children, and more protests spreading within the state. The letter submitted by the NPP threw in a shade of alleged betrayal as the government continues to fail in correcting the ongoing crisis. "Given the present scenario in Manipur, we have decided to withdraw support from the government with immediate effect," the letter stated.
The withdrawal has triggered question marks about the sustainability of the BJP government in Manipur, which is now experiencing challenges at its very peak time amidst the unrest. After the NPP withdrawal, the position of the BJP in the state now seems dubious.

Clashes have continued with volleys of violence, displacement, and loss of lives, which have now became a burning issue in Manipur for over a year. The withdrawal of NPP further testifies to the discontent mounting against the Biren Singh administration for it could not bring the flames of violence under control or persuade warring communities to stop the collisions amicably.
This move by NPP raises a question on the possible fate of the BJP-led government in this northeastern state concerning whether it will survive the political and social turmoil engulfing Manipur. The coming days will tell about the fate of the government and whether it could cross the present political and social storm.
