Yatnal Answers BJP Notice: Attacks Karnataka Leadership, Seeks Reforms and an End to Dynasty Politics
Basanagouda Patil Yatnal is the MLA from Vijayapura. He has just responded to the notice given by the central leadership of the BJP regarding his criticism against the Karnataka unit of the party. In his six-page reply to the BJP Central Disciplinary Committee (CDC), Yatnal elaborated on what he described as "adjustment politics, grand corruption, and dynastic politics" within the state party. He stressed that the Karnataka BJP needs to undergo much-needed reforms to strengthen the voice of Hindutva and resolve these internal issues.
Yatnal's letter, addressed to CDC member secretary Om Pathak, spelled out his grievances against the increasing dynasty politics in the state BJP, with a special mention of the leadership of former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and his family. Yatnal once again reiterated his demand for the appointment of a neutral national leader to look after the party affairs in Karnataka, expressing discontent over the present leadership arrangement.
In his letter, Yatnal explained how "adjustment politics" and corruption have harmed the reputation of the party in Karnataka. In his letter, Yatnal targeted allegations against Yediyurappa and his son B Y Vijayendra who is the president of BJP state. He said dynasty politics within BJP weakens BJP's stance over similar allegations against Congress and other opposition parties.
Yatnal is along with his criticism of BJP leadership currently leading a monthlong "anti-Waqf march" from Bidar to Chamarajanagar along with other senior BJP leaders. This march beginning from Nov 25 to Dec 25 is considered a display of strength by the faction of the party that is against Vijayendra's leadership. While Yatnal says the march is not directed at any individual, it has been widely interpreted as a direct challenge to the hegemony of the Yediyurappa family.
Despite the controversy, Yatnal remains adamant that his actions are in the best interest of the party and Karnataka, calling for a return to the principles of Hindutva that have gained traction in states like Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Maharashtra. He also urged the BJP to work on improving internal party dynamics to foster unity and strength.
