AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi rejected the offer for the second highest ‘Z’ category security cover. This comes a day after shots were fired at his convoy in UP.
“I don’t want Z category security. I want to be an A-Category citizen, at par with you all. Why was UAPA not invoked against those who fired at me?” he said. Owaisi was referring to the anti-terror law that has been extensively used by the government.
The incident happened while he was returning to Delhi after campaigning in Meerut. It was government’s decision to provide him with Z category security by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The decision was reached after thoroughly reviewing the threat level in the light of Thursday’s attack.
So far, two people have been arrested for firing at Owaisi’s convoy in Meerut’s Kithoudh area. According to police, one of the accused is Sachin, who is a resident of Noida.
While he has claimed that he holds a law degree, police are still verifying it. His Facebook profile says that Sachin is a member of a Hindu right-wing organisation.
Probe is underway. Another accused Shubham is a farmer from Saharanpur.
As per police, during the interrogation, the two were upset with remarks made by Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.
Moreover, country made pistols have been recovered from them. They had recently purchased the weapons.
The accused will be presented in court and police would seek their custody.
