Celebrate Valentine’s Day 2023: At-home ideas for a special day

Published Date:

We are once again in the spirit of celebration as the season of love arrives. Valentine’s Day is a more intimate occasion than other holidays, so it should be held in a close-knit setting. Rich details and stimulating moodboards dominate the decor and fashion statement, which speak to the intensity of the day.

Create surprises by adding closets and crannies

The season of Valentines is all about surprises. Leave a hint of excitement in the area by placing improvised arrangements in a concealed corner, such as a teepee or a mobile bar on a cart. You can also make a cosy area in a remote area of your house, such as the attic, mezzanine floor, or a simple platform, to make it look different from the norm and be perfect for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day, advises Kalra.

Soft furnishings can make a space more airy

Delicate textiles and their thoughtful layering can convey the celebration’s innocence and purity. “You can make these interior textiles part of a bigger picture by translating them into ottomans, pouffes, throw pillows, tapestries, curtains, and more soft furnishing pieces that serve as the backdrop for exquisite fabric works,” says the author. Examine the high-end collections of lace, tulle, embroidered organza, sheer cotton with block prints, etc. For those extra layers of frills and coverings in your space, to give it a deep character, explore the premium collections in lace, tulle, embroidered organza, block-printed sheer cotton, etc., advises Punam Kalra, interior designer and creative director of I’m the Centre for applied Arts.

Give the walls a touch of your personality

More than anything else, customised interiors speak for the private celebrations. By creating a gallery wall or adding handcrafted items that are dear to your heart, you can remember the good times. According to Kalra, you can transform a barren nook into a living memento by filling it with used goods, gifts from the past, mementos, and other sentimental items amid a fragrant environment of scented candles and lanterns. You can also maintain the status quo by using a custom backdrop or fresh flower arrangements to create the impression of an age-old romance.

Including mood lighting’s magic

The intimate nature of the event necessitates a moody yet dramatic lighting design. To give the room a nostalgic feel, use a lot of warm lighting. Kalra continues, “Leave small pops of light scattered in a dim-lit ambience. It can be anything from an overhead chandelier lighting up the dinner table to custom LED accents lining a special window view. To join in the celebration, you can also project a light show onto the ceiling or build a dance floor out of intelligent LEDs.

Textures can be used to add an emotional statement.

The personality of textures is deeply ingrained in the interior theme. With rich, intricate textures that cover the textiles, such as crush velvet, tufted leather, untamed fur, and more, you can bring out the emotion in Valentine’s Day colours like reds and pinks. You can also make room for eye-catching statement pieces of furniture with brushed metallic legs, grained stone tabletops, embossed wood panelling, and more. Winged chairs, lounge seats, nesting tables, linear consoles, etc. all produce interesting silhouettes that let the textures pop.

Stomach is the gateway to the heart

You can either place an order for food from your preferred restaurant or you can take it a step further and prepare it yourself. These small actions make a big difference and add to its specialness. Ankit and Anand Ojha, principal designer, Anand Atelier Associate, state that “spending time with your best person enjoying your favourite meal, relaxing and talking about the daily stuff and surrounded by the cosy setting will make you cherish this day forever.”
