Covishield vs Covaxin:Covishield produced more antibodies than Covaxin, the first Indian study involving doctors and nurses has revealed.

An unpublished data revealed that, Covishield was found to be 70 per cent effective after the first dose. At the same time, preliminary data from its phase 3 trial put Covaxin’s efficacy rate at 81 per cent.

Covishield vs Covaxin

The study by Coronavirus Vaccine-induced Antibody Titre (COVAT) involvied healthcare workers (HCW). They had received both doses of either of the two vaccines. As per the study, Covishield produced more antibodies than Covaxin.

The study involved those healthcare workers who received either of the two vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin – and were with or without past history of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Both vaccines gave good immune response

However, the study claims that both the seropositivity rate and the average rise in anti-spike antibody were significantly higher in Covishield than that of Covaxin. A data revealed that both vaccines give a good immune response.

At the weekly Covid update media briefing, Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) responded to the question. He said that the very first dose of Covishield vaccine produces “good levels” of antibodies in the body. But in case of Covaxin, the second dose triggers adequate immune response.
