India celebrates Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti today on January 20, 2021. Gobind Singh Ji was the last of the tenth Sikh Gurus.
He was born in Patna and this day marks his birth anniversary. According to the Nanakshahi calendar this year it falls today.
Who was Guru Gobind Singh Ji?
After his father’s death, Gobind Singh Ji became the leader of the Sikhs. As a result, he took the reigns and position at the age of nine. He was a poet, philosopher and warrior.

The tenth Sikh guru made numerous contributions to Sikhism and humanity. Guru Gobind Singh Ji directed that people cover their hair using a turban.

PM Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind also extended greetings to India and the world
The leader passed the Guruship of the Sikhs to holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji, before passing away.
Guru Gobind Singh: Pioneer of Khalsa
Gobind Singh Ji is seen as a pioneer of Khalsa- the highest order of Sikhs. There are four rules to it- keeping natural growth of hair, not eating halaal meat, not cohabiting with a person other than your spouse and not using tobacco or hookah.
He passed the Guruship of the Sikhs to holy Guru Granth Sahib Ji, before passing away.
On this day of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti people seek blessings and offer prayers.
Large processions are organised and people sing devotional songs. Underprivileged people are served with Langars and other help.
