Celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib stirred a major controversy over a video of him spitting on a woman’s head while styling her hair.

He said that such things are often done with a humourous intent during workshops, but said that he was sincerely sorry if someone had felt hurt.

The incident took place at Jawed Habib’s workshop in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar.

In the viral video, the hairstylist Habib could be seen spitting on a woman’s head while dressing her hair and is heard saying, “if there is a scarcity of water, use saliva.”

The woman has been identified as Pooja Gupta, she is an owner of a hairdressing parlour herself.

Taking cognisance of the incident, the NCW has condemned it seeking urgent intervention in the matter. Moreover, the incident also attracts violation of guidelines issued by the Union home ministry under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. As spitting in public is a punishable offence in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
