Miss Mexico has been crowned as Miss Universe Sunday. This comes after fellow contestant Miss Myanmar used her stage time to draw attention to the bloody military coup in former Burma.

Earlier, the pageant was cancelled in 2020 for the first time owing to coronavirus pandemic.

Andrea Meza is 26 years old. She finished first ahead of the Brazilian and Peruvian finalists. It remained a flashy televised event all in all.

However, these pageants have always drawn criticism in the past for objectifying the contestants.

This has led t the change in focus of these pageants. The competitions are now more focused on women empowerment in general.

Meza is a software engineer. Clinching the title at the pageant made big ripples as it was held after a gap of a year due to covid-19.

The crown was presented by her predecessor Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi in Florida.
