Step by step guide:

  • Pour a cup of clean rice into a mason jar.
  • Fill up the mason jar with water.
  • Let sit for 24 hours.
  • Drain the rice. It is fit for eating.
  • Infuse the rice water with an essential oil of your choice like lavender, hemp, jojoba, olive oil, etc. (This step is optional)

Now that your rice water is prepared, you can give your hair a rinse of this water after your normal shampoo-conditioner routine. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes to an hour. You can also use this water as a skin toner. It has a moisturizing and brightening affect on skin.

The starch in rice water can help to strengthen hair. The water also infuses the skin with vitamins and amino acids. Be sure to rinse off the rice water thoroughly, and not overdo it, as the abundance of protein in the water may actually dry out your hair.

Additionally, you can store unused rice water in the refrigerator for up to a week. Shake it well before using. You can always save the extra in the fridge for next time. When a sour smell appears, it is time to discard it and make a fresh batch.
