As the summer heat increases, parents must give extra care to their children, especially those who go to school. With rising temperatures, kids are at risk of dehydration, heatstroke, and other health issues caused by strong sunlight. In this weather, taking small but important steps can protect your child from the effects of heat.
Why is Summer Health Care for Kids Important?
The hot weather in India is becoming more intense day by day. When kids return home from school in the afternoon or go outside to play in the evening, they face the risk of sun exposure and heat-related illnesses. Children are more sensitive to heat, so taking care of their health becomes even more essential.
Keep Kids Hydrated to Avoid Dehydration
In summer, the body loses water quickly through sweat. This can cause dehydration in children, leading to problems like dizziness, weakness, and sometimes loose motions. So, it is very important to keep your child hydrated during summer. Encourage them to drink water throughout the day.
If your child doesn’t drink enough water, make sure they drink at least 2 litres a day. Apart from water, you can give them coconut water, lemon water, or bael juice, which not only refresh but also help in hydration. You can also include hydrating fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and muskmelon in their daily diet.
Let Kids Be Active – But at the Right Time
It’s important to keep kids active, but make sure they don’t go out during peak sun hours. Avoid letting them play outside between 10 AM to 5 PM when the sunlight is the strongest. Instead, encourage indoor activities during the day. Allow outdoor play only after 5 PM, and don’t forget to give them a water bottle to stay hydrated during playtime.
Dress Them in Light Cotton Clothes
In summer, always dress your child in light-colored cotton clothes. Cotton absorbs sweat quickly, which helps keep their body cool and prevents skin rashes or allergies. Avoid tight and dark-colored clothes, as they trap more heat and cause discomfort.
Follow a Healthy Summer Diet
Avoid giving oily, spicy, or heavy food in summer. These can cause digestion problems and make kids feel tired. Include seasonal fruits and vegetables in your child’s diet. Make sure they get enough nutrients and stay hydrated through their meals.
