Unique Terracotta Art in Bihar Pavilion becomes show-stealer at International Trade Fair

Published Date:

Creating marvelous arts from soil demands a huge amount of creativity, and the demonstration of this impeccable artistic skill is being seen at the Bihar Pavilion of the ongoing Trade Fair in Pragati Maidan. The artworks of a young entrepreneur named Neetu Sinha using soil are making visitors fall flat, and even the Bihar government is lauding the young woman for her efforts.

It was during the time of the Covid pandemic that female artist Neetu Sinha launched her startup with the financial assistance provided by the Bihar government. And now, in the International Trade Fair, Neetu Sinha is portraying her unmatchable artistic skills to global audiences.

Decorative items made of clay i.e. terracotta made under ‘Mati n Aakaar’ are not only being praised widely but people are also buying.

Dr. Nity Sharma, Senior Scientist, DRDO who visited the Bihar pavilion, said, “I liked Neetu Singh’s terracotta artifacts very much, after shopping for wall hangings. I really liked the design of their terracotta, especially I am surprised to see that even clay artifacts can be non-breakable.”

Neetu tells how everyone has been financially and mentally disturbed due to Corona, but in the meantime, she also got a chance to start her own startup and today her work is being appreciated. A graduate in fine art craft, Neetu chooses clay i.e. terracotta art for her startup, and made it into sculptures to be decorated on terracotta walls.

One of the most noted sculptures is the statue of Mahatma Buddha sitting under a tree along with other followers when the king has brought food for him.
Neetu says that its demand is highest, it can be placed both outside the house and indoors. The artist assures that this idol worth 51 thousand, is so strong that unless it is broken forcibly, it will neither break nor will be damaged by rain or fire.

Neetu has also made nameplates using terracotta which has also garnered a huge demand in the fair.

Another visitor Manoj Kumar Sharma also expressed, “It is a fantastic display of art and craft of Bihar at Trade here. The diaspora like us is always excited to visit Bihar pavillion and buy handmade local items from the artisans.

Educationist Mr. Sharma further said, “Meeting Padma Awardee and state icon Dulari Devi and watching her live demo on canvas is mesmerizing. I wish Bihar bags gold again for its quintessential display of art and craft at Trade fair.”
